Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as the game nears its release date. In a heartfelt nod to their past, the studio took a moment to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim more than a decade ago.
This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, while The Alters embraces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep connection between these two titles.
Though set in different worlds and moods, both games are deeply rooted in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of war within a besieged city, managing scarce resources and navigating daily challenges to keep their group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.
Both titles challenge players to step out of their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in search of essential resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine focuses on guiding a group of random civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass right from its debut, ensuring wide accessibility for gamers eager to explore this innovative new world.
