A new trailer for the eagerly awaited TV series, Alien: Earth, has surfaced online, providing fans with an unprecedented glimpse into the upcoming show. The trailer, first unveiled at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders and shared by @CineGeekNews on X/Twitter, teases a gripping narrative centered around the survivors of a space ship wrecked by a Xenomorph and hurtling towards Earth.
The trailer opens with a scene reminiscent of Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 horror film, set within a MU/TH/UR control room strikingly similar to that of the Nostromo. Here, a desperate crew member is seen pleading for help as the Xenomorph wreaks havoc. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears detached, reporting that the "specimens are loose," declaring the crew dead, and setting the ship's course to crash on Earth. The trailer then shifts to a group of six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed vessel, hinting at a perilous encounter.
This trailer raises numerous questions about the series' plot: Will Morrow survive? What motivates him? Are there other survivors, and could any be carrying a Xenomorph embryo? And what fate awaits the soldiers?
Alien: Earth is set to explore these themes, focusing on a mysterious space vessel's crash on Earth and the subsequent discovery by a young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers. Their encounter with the planet's ultimate threat promises to be a thrilling addition to the Alien franchise.
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth slots into the Alien timeline between the events of Prometheus and Alien. This positioning has led fans to speculate whether the series might depict the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani corporation first learned of the Xenomorphs. For context, the recently released Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.
Showrunner Noah Hawley, in a statement from January last year, explained his decision to diverge from the backstory provided in Prometheus. Hawley, who consulted with Ridley Scott on numerous aspects of the series, chose to embrace the "retro-futurism" of the original films, opting out of the bioweapon narrative to stay true to the lore established in the earlier movies.
Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is currently in development, continuing to expand the rich universe of the Alien saga.
