Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, the game has undergone an exciting transformation and is now officially known as Ananta. This RPG was first unveiled back in August 2023 during Gamescom, and after a seemingly endless wait with no updates, the team has finally released a fresh trailer. Fans can look forward to more information coming on December 5th. In the meantime, don't miss out on the official trailer for what was once Project Mugen, now Ananta.
Why the Name Change?
The developers haven't provided any official reasoning behind the switch from Project Mugen to Ananta. Interestingly, "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligning well with "Mugen," which also means "infinite" in Japanese. The Chinese name for the game further supports this theme of infinity. While the gaming community is divided on the name change, there's a collective sigh of relief knowing that the project is still alive and kicking.
Gamers are already comparing Ananta to another eagerly awaited RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. Ananta's new trailer, while sleek and visually stunning, offers no glimpse of gameplay, leaving Neverness to Everness in the lead for some players. Personally, I find Project Mugen/Ananta's visuals more appealing.
Here’s Where Things Get Weird, Though
In a surprising move, the Team Project Mugen has wiped out all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel that boasted over 100k subscribers and videos with millions of views. They've retained their Discord, merely renaming it, but for all other platforms, they've started anew. This decision has puzzled many fans, as it would have been simpler to just rename the existing accounts.
In Ananta, you step into the shoes of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with managing paranormal chaos. The game features a diverse cast of characters including Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
