Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Peyton Apr 15,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is crucial, and anointing is one of the key methods to do so. While some power boosts are straightforward, anointing can seem a bit complex at first. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes available later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which you can only obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, think of Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market.

To upgrade Distilled Emotions, utilize the Reforging Bench. Combining three of the same type will produce an upgraded version of that Distilled Emotion, allowing you to tailor your collection to your needs.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is currently applicable to Waystones and amulets. As the game is in Early Access, future updates might introduce additional anointing options. To anoint an amulet, select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is inconsequential. Place the amulet in the central box and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. To view these, hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect is not permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt to your current build as needed. The new skill will replace the old one.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can yield better loot. However, both amulets and Waystones cannot be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this guide, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, optimizing your build, or challenging yourself with an anointed Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
