Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile, which is particularly ironic given that the legendary icon is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. This version of the game, which hit the mobile scene over a decade ago, has been a staple for many fans of the franchise.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. For those still engaged with the game, you have until May 30th to savor the last moments of PAC-MAN Mobile.
The decision to completely shut down the game rather than transitioning it to an offline mode has left many players disappointed. The community has expressed that they would have been content with an offline version, which could have continued to generate revenue for Bandai Namco.
PAC-MAN Mobile, once known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. It included the iconic 8-bit arcade mode alongside a Story Mode with a plethora of original mazes to navigate. The game also featured an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. Additionally, the Tournament Mode offered weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and the game boasted numerous skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile stems from ongoing issues that have plagued the game for years. Accumulating bugs and other problems have likely contributed significantly to this decision. The initial years after its launch on Android were filled with excitement as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, making it a fun and engaging experience.
If you're eager to play PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
