In the expansive world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as a vital herb among the many scattered across Rivellon. It's essential for the Meister's Ritual, which you'll need to perform during the game's fourth act under the guidance of Meister Siva. To successfully conduct this ritual and gain access to the Hall of Echoes, where you can acquire the Night Vision skill, you'll need to craft a special Ritual Bowl. This involves combining a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the crucial Blackroot.
The first time you undertake this ritual, all the necessary ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals, which you can perform each time you earn a Source point, require you to gather these items on your own. While finding a ritual bowl and an obsidian lancet is usually straightforward, and you might already have them in your inventory, locating Blackroot can be quite a challenge. If you're struggling to find this elusive herb, this guide is here to help.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood, a dense forest nestled in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is just a short trek north of Driftwood. Once you're immersed in the forest, press and hold the left ALT key to highlight all the items you can pick up.
As you explore, keep an eye out for several herbs, including Blackroots, which often grow at the base of trees. Although you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it's wise to collect a few extra to ensure you're well-prepared. This guide avoids spoilers regarding how many times the ritual must be performed, but remember, you can attempt it each time you earn a Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is teeming with secrets, from two NPCs who can help you earn Source points, to an undead trader and a formidable witch who offers a challenging battle.
Hannag and Jahan are the two NPCs who can assist you in gaining Source points, with Jahan also playing a key role in advancing Lohse's storyline. Hidden among some ruins, you'll find the undead trader, Eithne. Engage with her and select the "Divine Order" option to unlock a side quest.
Further north in Cloisterwood, a pier leads to a Dead Ferryman NPC who can transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable characters you might encounter in Cloisterwood. The forest holds many more secrets, including the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to acquire a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take the time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's recommended to steer clear of the crucified witch, Alice Alisceon, until you reach at least level 15.
