With the launch of Concord just around the corner on August 23, Sony and developer Firewalk Studios have shared details about the game's post-launch content and roadmap. Read on for Firewalk's updates and their tips on how to best play Concord.
Concord Unveils Roadmap Ahead of Launch DayConcord Doesn't Require Battle Pass
In a recent PlayStation Blog post, game director Ryan Ellis outlined the seasonal updates that will introduce new characters, new maps and worlds, new modes, new stories, new features, and more: "We see launch as just the beginning. The beginning of not only the vision we’ve set out for Concord, but also the beginning of how we support and grow the game with our players."
Concord had previously confirmed it would forgo a traditional Battle Pass system, which many hero shooters such as Overwatch, use. Developer Firewalk Studios said, "We wanted to focus our attention on making Concord a rewarding and robust experience on day one, where just playing the game, leveling up your accounts and characters, and completing jobs yields meaningful rewards," A Battle Pass is a progression system, usually monetized, and commonly used in free-to-play and live-service games. It offers players rewards such as cosmetics, in-game currency, or other items, even a character locked behind it in some cases.
Concord Season 1: The Tempest Coming in October
Concord’s first major post-launch update, Season 1: The Tempest, is slated to go live in October. The update will introduce a new playable Freegunner, a brand-new map, additional Freegunner Variants, and more cosmetics and rewards. Season 1 will also feature weekly Cinematic Vignettes that expand the story of the Northstar crew characters.
Concord In-Game Store
An in-game store will also be introduced during Season 1, which will offer additional customization options for players. The items available in the store will be cosmetic items that won't impact gameplay. "These will supplement the hundreds of rewards earnable through progression and will be solely cosmetic, optional, and have no gameplay impact," Ellis said.
Season 2 Slated for January 2025
Season 2 is already in the pipeline, with a planned release in January 2025. Firewalk Studios has committed to regular seasonal drops throughout Concord’s first year and pledged a steady stream of new content for players to enjoy. "We can’t wait to fully unpack what we have in store for Season 1 ahead of its launch in October," Ellis added.
Concord Tips and Gameplay Strategy
"Crew Builder also incentivizes you to populate your Custom Crews with characters of different roles. Unlike traditional archetypes, like Tank or Support, each Freegunner in Concord is meant to deliver high-DPS and be effective in a gunfight," he added. Additionally, balancing your team with Freegunners from different roles can unlock special Crew Bonuses, which provide special bonuses that can increase mobility, improve weapon RECOIL, reduce cooldown times, and more.
Unlike traditional shooter roles such as Tank or Support, Concord’s Freegunner characters are meant to deliver "high DPS and be effective in a gunfight." Instead, the six roles, namely: Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden are defined by their impact on the match. These include locking down and controlling an area, turning long sightlines to your advantage, and flanking enemies.
