Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Game Cancelled

by George Mar 13,2025

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its flagship FPS game, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for employment opportunities for its talented team members.

Founded by Beahm, along with industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo), Midnight Society aimed to deliver a free-to-play FPS, Deadrop, leveraging the team's extensive experience. While targeting a 2024 release, the game ultimately missed its mark.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from the studio in 2024 after allegations of inappropriate messaging with a minor via Twitch Whispers, Midnight Society continued development on Deadrop until its recent shutdown.

Set in a vibrant, alternate 1980s universe, Deadrop showcased characters sporting Daft Punk-inspired helmets and wielding a mix of futuristic firearms and melee weapons. Gameplay was envisioned as a PvPvE extraction shooter.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges in the current difficult climate for the games industry, joining companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, among many others, who have also experienced layoffs or closures.
