Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlocking the Elusive Yellow Orb

The Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest 3 Remake presents a unique challenge. While the steps aren't overly complex, finding the starting point can be tricky. This guide will walk you through acquiring this crucial orb.

The Yellow Orb is located in a town initially labeled as "???" on the map – a town you must establish and develop. This town, ultimately named after the merchant you hire, becomes the key to obtaining the Yellow Orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. With quest markers enabled, you'll find it in the northeast corner of the world map; sailing west from the coast will lead you to the eastern edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is recommended. The town's growth requires time, so starting this process soon after obtaining your ship allows you to pursue other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

  1. Hire a Merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route to ensure your new recruit's safety.

  1. At Merchantburg, enter the single building. An old man will request a merchant to found the town. Assign your newly hired merchant to this role. The town will then receive its official name.

Merchantburg's Growth and the Orb:

Merchantburg undergoes five growth stages. You'll receive notifications prompting your return after each stage. The town expands with each visit, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, you'll notice growing tensions between your merchant and the townsfolk.

The Final Visit and Orb Discovery:

Visit Merchantburg at night during your fifth visit. The merchant will be absent from his home. The townspeople have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his residence.

Speak to the imprisoned merchant; he'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his former home; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to uncover the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is typically one of the last to be found. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
