Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Character Switching Guide

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily take on the role of the Wanderer, embarking on a quest to restore peace to the land. Throughout the main storyline, you'll encounter numerous choices that shape your journey, and regardless of your decisions, you'll often be accompanied by powerful companions in battle.

These companions not only follow you loyally across the battlefield but also offer you the chance to take control of them during combat. Given their superior strength, playing as a companion can be significantly more effective than sticking with the Wanderer, even with his upgrades. Here's how you can switch characters to leverage their power.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to play as your companion is only possible during battles where you have one by your side. Before the battle, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion. You can choose to go into battle alone, but remember, you won't be able to switch to any companions mid-fight if you do.

Once the battle starts, keep an eye on the bottom right of your screen. You'll see your companion's health bar positioned just above your own. Below this, there's a blue bar similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up as you engage in combat, with actions like:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Virtually every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at a slower pace.

When your companion's blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" button will appear next to it. To switch characters, press and hold this button for about a second. On Xbox, use the View Button; on PC, press C; and on PlayStation, use the Touchpad.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

It's best to switch to another character during the heat of a major battle, as companions are exceptionally powerful. You'll only control them for roughly a minute, indicated by the blue bar that filled to allow the switch, which now drains to show your remaining time.

Upon switching, your new character will enter the fight with a powerful attack, so make sure to aim at an enemy for maximum impact. Your companion will come equipped with a full Bravery meter and a selection of combat arts, all of which are highly effective. Additionally, they'll have their own Musou and health bars, both fully charged, enabling you to unleash their unique special attack and wreak havoc on your foes.
