F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Arrive on Switch Online
### Available October 11, 2024Nintendo has exciting news for racing game enthusiasts: two iconic Game Boy Advance (GBA) titles from the F-Zero series, F-Zero: GP Legend and the Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, are set to join the Switch Online + Expansion Pack on October 11, 2024.
The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's gaming legacy, debuted over 30 years ago in 1990 in Japan. Renowned for its high-speed, futuristic racing action, F-Zero has not only been a critical success but has also influenced other racing games, such as SEGA's "Daytona USA." The series has been celebrated for pushing the technological limits of gaming consoles, particularly noted for being among the fastest racing games on platforms like the SNES.
Much like the beloved Mario Kart series, F-Zero's gameplay is all about racing to the finish line while navigating through challenging track obstacles and engaging in thrilling battles with other racers' vehicles, known as "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, also makes his mark as a fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, with a Western release following in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released exclusively in Japan in 2004, marks the last entry in the series until the launch of F-Zero 99 last year. In an interview, F-Zero game designer Takaya Imamura highlighted that the dominance of Mario Kart in the racing genre contributed to the F-Zero series' near-two-decade hiatus.
With the October 2024 Game Update for the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, subscribers can dive into F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend. Players will have the opportunity to compete in various race modes, including the Grand Prix, story modes, and time-based challenges, aiming to climb the leaderboards.
