Harrison Ford shrugs off the critical and commercial disappointment of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, simply stating, "s**t happens." He joined the project because he felt there was another chapter to tell in Indiana Jones's story, wanting one last chance to revisit the character, even in a diminished state. Despite the film's estimated $100 million loss, Ford remains content with his involvement. He explains his desire to give the character a final send-off, saying, "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened."
This hasn't deterred him from joining another iconic franchise. Ford has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, succeeding the late William Hurt. While he'll eventually transform into the Red Hulk, Ford joined the MCU before knowing the full extent of his character's arc, drawn in by the prospect of a fun experience. He states, "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time. I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."
Captain America: Brave New World, arriving February 14th, marks one of the shorter MCU entries and features Anthony Mackie as Captain America. The film promises to delve into lesser-known Marvel characters, including a payoff to a long-standing plot thread introduced in The Incredible Hulk with the appearance of The Leader.
