Hyper Light Breaker offers a diverse roster of playable characters, each with unique fighting styles, to tackle the Abyss King. Unlocking new Breakers is surprisingly straightforward, though the game doesn't explicitly explain the process. This guide covers all currently available characters and how to acquire them (note: this guide reflects the early access version and will be updated as new Breakers are added).
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Unlocking new characters requires Abyss Stones, which drop exclusively from Crowns (bosses). To reach the Crowns, you'll first need Prisms, acting as keys to boss arenas. Locate Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon. After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost teleporter and select the Breaker you wish to unlock. Spend your earned Abyss Stones to add the character to your roster. While nine characters exist, currently only two are unlockable via this Abyss Stone method. The unlock method for future characters remains to be seen.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character begins with a SyCom, a key item defining their base stats and core abilities, shaping their playstyle. Here's a breakdown of each character and their unique strengths:
Vermillion
Vermillion, the starting character, defaults to the Gunslinger SyCom, favoring ranged combat. Critical hits with his Rail shots guarantee a subsequent critical hit. Alternatively, unlock the Tank SyCom for a melee-focused approach, rewarding perfect parries with increased armor and boasting superior defensive and melee stats.
Lapis
Lapis also starts with a Rail-oriented SyCom, Lightweaver, enhancing Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. However, her unlockable Warrior SyCom significantly boosts her core stats with each upgrade, making her a late-game powerhouse.
Goro
Goro is another ranged character. His Astrologer SyCom accelerates Blade skill charge while shooting, while the Sniper SyCom boosts critical hit rate. High damage potential makes him a glass cannon—effective but vulnerable.
