Described as a detective drama reminiscent of True Detective and Slow Horses, Lanterns follows Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a murder that spirals into a far more complex and sinister conspiracy. The series is officially part of James Gunn's expanded DC Universe, alongside projects like Creature Commando and the forthcoming Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow films.
Developed by Damon Lindelof (renowned for Lost), alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King, Lanterns promises a darker, grittier take on the Green Lantern mythos. Gunn himself describes the tone as "very grounded, very believable, very real," a stark contrast to typical Green Lantern portrayals.
Chandler, known for his role in Friday Night Lights, portrays an older Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, who starred in Rebel Ridge, takes on the role of John Stewart. The series is slated for a 2026 premiere, coinciding with the release of the Supergirl movie.
