Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Sales Milestone
Following its release late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly achieved significant sales success, exceeding 200,000 units sold. This accomplishment comes despite initial launch challenges, including technical issues and some controversy surrounding content changes. The strong sales figures demonstrate considerable player demand for the game.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for titles like the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant action-hack-and-slash game. Players take on the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling hordes of zombies. While Grasshopper Manufacture didn't handle the remaster, Dragami Games stepped in, adding quality-of-life improvements and a substantial visual upgrade.
This sales milestone, achieved several months after the September 2024 release across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, was announced by Dragami Games via a recent tweet.
Celebrating Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph
Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who discovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun by the undead. Fast-paced, chainsaw-fueled combat against waves of zombies and unique bosses is central to the gameplay, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, reportedly selling over one million copies. The game's popularity likely benefited from the unique collaboration between renowned game designer Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director), who contributed to the story and writing.
While there's currently no news regarding potential DLC or a sequel stemming from RePOP's success, the achievement bodes well for remasters of other niche titles. This positive trend is further underscored by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
