Lunar Remastered Collection Launch Date Revealed

Summary

  • Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The collection includes fully voiced dialogue, a classic mode, and quality-of-life features like faster combat and auto-battle.

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is scheduled for release on April 18. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this duology collection will bring the first two Lunar games to modern consoles with updated graphics, re-recorded soundtracks, and several quality-of-life enhancements. The collection will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam, and it will also support current-gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The announcement of the Lunar Remastered Collection came during a Sony State of Play in 2024, thrilling JRPG fans. The Lunar series, which debuted with Lunar: The Silver Star on the Sega CD in 1992 and followed by Lunar: Eternal Blue in 1994, has been beloved by gamers. Both titles were later remade for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, respectively. The Lunar series is often hailed as one of the best RPGs on the Sega Saturn, making the remastered collection a highly anticipated release.

GungHo Online Entertainment confirmed that the Lunar Remastered Collection will be available on April 18 across PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Physical editions will be offered in select stores in North America and Europe. The remaster includes modern updates such as widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. Additionally, a classic mode allows players to experience the game with PS1-era graphics, catering to nostalgic fans.

The collection features fully voiced dialogue in both Japanese and English, along with newly added French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a speed-up command for combat and new strategies for auto-battle, aligning with modern trends in JRPG remasters. These features, which help streamline and accelerate combat, are becoming standard in remakes of classic JRPGs, as seen in titles like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster.

The Lunar Remastered Collection follows the trend of reviving classic JRPGs for modern platforms. While it's uncertain how the collection will perform financially, the successful collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook for this project.
