Tidepool Games has just released an exciting new fast-paced pixel art game for Android enthusiasts called MageTrain. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly similar, as it draws heavy inspiration from it.
What's MageTrain Like?
MageTrain blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into an engaging experience. You control a line of heroes that follow behind you, much like a snake. As you navigate through the arena, each hero automatically attacks enemies, and your task is to manage their positions to avoid crashing into obstacles or foes. The placement of heroes in the train affects their abilities, so deciding who leads and who follows is crucial.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine heroes, each with unique skills that vary depending on their position in the train. One quirky hero even throws birds! The game features eight different dungeons, 28 enemy types, and 30 skills to enhance your team's capabilities. You'll also collect gold and power-ups as you progress.
Thanks to its roguelike structure, each run through MageTrain is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, choose upgrades, and strive to survive as long as possible. The game's structure is reminiscent of Slay the Spire or FTL, with no fixed levels and no option to save progress mid-run. If you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to start over.
It Isn't Slow-Paced
The thrill of MageTrain lies in the improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to go on the offensive, and when to focus on surviving just a bit longer.
MageTrain is now available for free on Android, so don't miss out—head over to the Google Play Store to try it out.
