Monkey King Swings onto Nintendo Switch

The gaming world often sees imitators latching onto the success of popular titles. However, Wukong Sun: Black Legend isn't just inspired by its apparent source material; it seems to directly borrow elements. The visual style, the staff-wielding protagonist, and the plot summary strongly resemble Game Science's acclaimed hit.

Currently available for pre-order on the US eShop, the game's future is uncertain. Given the apparent plagiarism, Game Science could pursue legal action for copyright infringement, potentially leading to its removal from the platform.

Wukong Sun: Black Legend's description reads: “Embark on an epic journey to the West. Play as the immortal Wukong, the legendary Monkey King, fighting for order in a chaotic world teeming with powerful monsters and deadly dangers. Explore a story inspired by Chinese mythology, featuring intense battles, stunning locations, and legendary enemies.”

In contrast, Black Myth: Wukong is a critically acclaimed action RPG based on Chinese mythology. Few anticipated the success of this title from a small Chinese studio, which stormed the Steam charts upon release. Black Myth: Wukong boasts exceptional detail, engaging gameplay, and challenging yet accessible combat, blending souls-like elements with newcomer-friendly mechanics.

The combat system and progression are thoughtfully designed, avoiding the need for extensive guides while still offering strategic depth. Visually, the battles are breathtaking, showcasing fluid animations. The game's strength lies in its captivating setting and stunning visual design, immersing players in a fantastical world with memorable character designs. Many gamers believe Black Myth: Wukong deserved a "Game of the Year 2024" nomination at The Game Awards.
