"Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons: New Feature Revealed"

by Leo Apr 06,2025

Summary

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons may feature a mode that allows them to function similarly to a computer mouse.
  • Recent shipping manifests from a suspected Nintendo parts supplier included references to adhesive tape typically used on the bottoms of computer mice.
  • The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already offers a similar mouse-like mode for its controllers, setting a precedent for such functionality in handheld consoles.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might soon offer a unique feature, allowing them to operate in a mode akin to a computer mouse, according to emerging circumstantial evidence. While it remains uncertain whether this mouse-like functionality will be widely adopted by game developers, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.

This intriguing possibility was brought to light by Famiboards user LiC, who has been analyzing Vietnamese customs data related to shipments from a company believed to be a Nintendo parts supplier. This data has been a rich source of information fueling numerous Switch 2 rumors and speculation since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC shared a new finding on Famiboards, revealing mentions of polyethylene (PE) plastic adhesive tape in customs manifests, described as intended "to stick to game console handles." These tapes were labeled as "mouse soles," a term commonly associated with the bottom part of a computer mouse. This suggests that the upcoming Switch 2 could incorporate mouse-like functionality.

LiC identified two specific model numbers for these mouse soles: LG7 and SML7. These designations were not found in any public component databases, indicating they might be part of new, unreleased products. According to the data, both tape pieces measure 90 x 90mm, which is large enough to cover the back of the new Joy-Cons, though their square shape might require trimming during assembly.

Nintendo Switch 2 Wouldn't Be the First Console With Mouse Controller Mode

While the concept of a mouse-like controller mode is innovative, it's not entirely new. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features a right controller that can function as a mouse when rotated into a joystick-like shape. Lenovo even includes a circular plastic piece to facilitate smooth movement across surfaces.

Additionally, the Legion GO's magnetic rails for attaching controllers echo rumors about similar features in the Switch 2. This suggests that the Legion GO could provide a preview of what to expect from Nintendo's next hybrid console.
