Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO players can use remote raid passes for Shadow Raids for the first time during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. Introduced in 2023, Shadow Raids have become a popular method for catching powerful Pokémon.
As 2025 unfolds, Niantic continues to update the popular augmented reality game. January alone saw the return of Ralts for a Community Day, and now, a highly anticipated feature arrives.
During Fashion Week: Taken Over (January 15th, 12:00 a.m. to January 19th, 8:00 p.m. local time), trainers can use remote raid passes in one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids, both in-person and remotely. Participating in Shadow Raids increases the chance of catching Pokémon with higher IV stats.
Pokémon GO Temporarily Introduces Remote Raid Passes for Shadow Raids
While this feature is limited to Fashion Week: Taken Over, players can remotely participate in the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day on January 19th (2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time). This raid day offers a boosted chance to catch a Shiny Shadow Ho-Oh and teach it the charged attack, Sacred Fire. Players can also use Charged TMs to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon.
This is exciting news for many Pokémon GO players, as the ability to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids has been a frequently requested feature since their introduction in 2023. It's important to note that this functionality will end after Fashion Week: Taken Over.
Whether Niantic will permanently enable remote raid passes for Shadow Raids remains uncertain. Previous criticism regarding the in-person requirements for Dynamax and Gigantamax battles might lead to a permanent implementation of this feature, given the positive player response.
