Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite Returnal, is set for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro. The game, unveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, stars Rahul Kohli.
The trailer showcases classic Housemarque hallmarks. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in an eclipse and threatened by a formidable entity. The emphasis on "coming back stronger" and the fiery, bullet-hell-style combat strongly suggest a roguelite experience reminiscent of Returnal.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's action-focused design philosophy. While a new single-player IP, it retains the third-person action of Returnal, but with significant differences.
A key divergence from Returnal, as highlighted on the PlayStation Blog by Louden, lies in permanent progression. While the game world dynamically shifts upon player death, players will accumulate permanent upgrades for their weaponry and suits.
Housemarque plans to reveal extended gameplay footage later this year. For a complete rundown of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
