HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will resurrect cut content from the original video game, The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head, Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that "pretty brutal" scenes will be included, drawing from the "Lost Levels" partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer varied tones – from the relatively peaceful party and boar hunt sequences to the intense horror of Ellie's escape through the Seattle sewers.

The restored content promises intense viewing, with Druckmann promising a "pretty prominent" character, previously only mentioned in the game, will appear, echoing the Season 1 inclusion of Frank. Season 2 introduces a significant cast expansion, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, alongside Catherine O'Hara in a currently undisclosed role.
Season 2's premiere in April will answer some mysteries, but the adaptation of Part II will extend beyond a single season, unlike Season 1's complete coverage of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin stated that Part II's narrative scope necessitates this approach. While a Season 3 renewal remains unconfirmed, Season 2 concludes with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
