Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong is still under active development and will eventually be released. This follows recent speculation fueled by a cake-related profile picture change by a co-creator. While that proved unrelated to a Silksong announcement or ARG, Griffin's statement offers much-needed reassurance to fans.
Official Confirmation
Griffin's confirmation on X (formerly Twitter) directly addressed fan concerns, stating definitively that "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This is the first official update on the game's status in over a year and a half.
The initial speculation, triggered by a co-creator's cake-themed profile picture, led to rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 release or an alternate reality game. However, these were quickly debunked by Griffin and a YouTuber, fireb0rn.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
Announced in February 2019 with an initial release window of the first half of 2023, Silksong was later delayed in May 2023 due to its expanded scope and the developers' desire for further refinement. The game promises a new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging "Silk Soul" difficulty mode. The delay, nearing two years, has understandably generated both excitement and impatience amongst fans.
While the recent update is brief, it provides a much-needed dose of optimism. Fan reaction has been mixed, with some expressing relief and others remaining skeptical due to the extended development time.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey to the kingdom's peak. A release date remains unannounced.
