Switch 2 Compatibility Concerns Emerge After Leak

Nintendo Switch 2: Power Up with a New Charger?

Rumors suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While leaks point to a design similar to the original Switch, a recent report indicates the new console will ship with a 60W power cord, unlike the original's lower wattage cable.

Recent leaks have offered glimpses of the Switch 2, including images seemingly confirming a similar design to the original and showcasing magnetic Joy-Con controllers. These unofficial reveals, however, haven't been verified by Nintendo. The company remains tight-lipped about the console's official specifications, with a reveal expected by March 2025.

A purported image of the Switch 2's charging dock, shared by journalist Laura Kate Dale, further fuels the charger incompatibility speculation. While the original Switch cable might charge the new console, it's likely inefficient and a 60W cable is recommended for optimal performance.

Charging Cable Compatibility Concerns

This isn't the only circulating rumor surrounding the Switch 2. Previous leaks have detailed developer kits, hinting at potential game titles like a new Mario Kart and Project X Zone. Speculation on the console's graphical capabilities ranges from PlayStation 4 Pro parity to slightly lower performance.

Although the Switch 2 will include its own charger, users should be aware of the potential incompatibility with the original Switch's power cord. Losing the new console's charger might necessitate purchasing a 60W replacement instead of relying on the older, less powerful cable. The accuracy of this information, however, remains unconfirmed pending official announcements from Nintendo.
