Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with Path of Exile 2's launch.
GGG had previously committed to continued support for PoE 1 alongside the release of PoE 2. However, the PoE 1 team was reassigned to assist with PoE 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While GGG anticipated a swift return to PoE 1's 3.26 update after addressing PoE 2's initial issues, this proved unrealistic.
In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. PoE 2 experienced unexpected crashes and balance problems requiring immediate attention, making it impossible to justify diverting resources back to PoE 1. Rogers admitted to overconfidence in the studio's ability to manage two game updates concurrently.
The delay impacts PoE 1 players, whose last league release was Settlers of Kalguur in July 2024. While a release date for the 3.26 update remains uncertain, Rogers assures players that a plan is in place. The PoE 1 team will continue to focus on PoE 2 until version 0.2.0 is released and stabilized, likely extending a couple of weeks beyond that.
Despite the setbacks, PoE 2's December 6, 2024 launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was a resounding success, achieving a remarkable position as one of Steam's top 15 most-played games.
To assist players, GGG has provided class selection guidance for PoE 2 early access, along with build guides for Mercenaries and Sorceresses. Additional resources are available covering topics such as Spirit acquisition, trading, and ascensions.
