Ubisoft Announces Changes to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Ubisoft has made several significant announcements impacting the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows and the future of the Prince of Persia franchise. The early access period for Assassin's Creed Shadows, previously offered with the Collector's Edition, has been canceled.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Updates:
- Early Access Cancellation: The early access period for the Collector's Edition has been scrapped. The game will now launch on February 14, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
- Price Reduction: The Collector's Edition price has been reduced from $280 to $230. This still includes the artbook, steelbook, figurine, and other previously announced items.
- No Season Pass: Ubisoft has confirmed there will be no season pass for Assassin's Creed Shadows.
- Potential Co-op Mode: Rumors suggest a potential co-op mode featuring both antagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, is under consideration by Ubisoft Quebec. However, this remains unconfirmed.
- Delay Reasons: Insider Gaming reports the delay and cancellation of early access are attributed to challenges in maintaining historical accuracy and cultural representation, along with the need for further polishing.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Team Disbanded:
Ubisoft has dissolved the development team at Ubisoft Montpellier responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Despite positive critical reception, the decision stems from the game failing to meet sales expectations.
While Ubisoft hasn't released specific sales figures, the company expressed disappointment with the game's performance. Senior producer Abdelhak Elguess stated that the team is proud of their work and that the game's post-launch content roadmap is complete. Future plans include bringing the game to Mac by winter and focusing on future Prince of Persia projects. Team members have transitioned to other projects within Ubisoft.
