DOOM debuts via Apple Lightning/HDMI adapter

The dedicated DOOM community continues to push boundaries, exploring the game's compatibility with unexpected hardware. A recent feat showcases this ingenuity: NyanSatan successfully launched the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.

The adapter, as NyanSatan explains, utilizes iOS-based firmware and a processor clocked at up to 168 MHz. The process involved accessing the adapter's firmware and then executing the game. A MacBook was necessary for firmware transfer due to the adapter's lack of internal memory.

Meanwhile, news on an upcoming iteration reveals a focus on accessibility. DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to significantly adjust the game's difficulty. This includes modifying demon aggression, enemy damage, projectile speed, and damage taken. Further customization options will impact the game's overall pace, aggression levels, and parry timing, exceeding the customization options in previous id Software titles.

Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the game's accessibility. He confirms that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand the narratives in either DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
