Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa vs. Xiao - Who to Pull?

by Layla Apr 03,2025

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, players will be introduced to two new characters: Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst, and Iansan, a 4-Star Electro Polearm. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their kits, with Varesa's standing out due to its similarity to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa’s kit is unique and somewhat humorous, particularly her Charged Attacks. She propels herself into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks and generating Nightsoul Points. As a character from Natlan, using her Charged Attack is crucial for accumulating these points.

Moreover, her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward and dealing Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks become Plunging Attacks without stamina consumption, echoing Xiao’s playstyle, especially when he uses his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks.

After executing sufficient Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a powerful masked luchador state called Fiery Passion, provided her Nightsoul Meter is full. This state enhances her attacks and Burst, making Plunging Attacks a core element of her gameplay.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key distinction between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack mechanics lies in their initiation methods. Xiao relies on his Elemental Burst to enable continuous Plunging Attacks, whereas Varesa can start them with her Charged Attacks, allowing her to enter and sustain a more powerful state while maintaining the ability to perform Plunging Attacks.

If you enjoy Xiao's playstyle and are drawn to this type of gameplay, Varesa could be a worthwhile addition. Her independence from her Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is a significant advantage. She synergizes well with other Natlan characters, leveraging the Nightsoul's Blessing effect.

However, consider that Xianyun will also be featured in the *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I) banner. Xianyun excels as a support for Plunging Attack-focused characters like Xiao. If you already own Xiao and lack Xianyun, pulling for her might be more beneficial. If you're seeking a fresh yet familiar experience, Varesa could be the choice for you.
