Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with Money artist Luca Casalanguida. The first issue boasts cover art by Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series will also include a serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a continuation of Pires' sci-fi series, Indigo Children.

Image Comics provides the following synopsis for Lost Fantasy:

In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact between the two realms occurred over a century ago following a catastrophic natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters into our world. Since then, elite monster hunters known as The Great Hunters have collaborated with global leaders to protect humanity from these shadowy creatures. However, a recent devastating event in Montana has shattered the fragile peace, threatening both worlds. Now, rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must rise to the challenge and prevent a cataclysmic conflict.

"I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy—a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something Is Killing the Children with the intricate world-building and action-packed storytelling of the JRPGs I grew up with," Pires shared with IGN. "Games like the Final Fantasy series heavily influenced the design, with our protagonist's spiky hair and greatsword a direct homage to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic design for Cloud."

Pires adds, "The 'Lost' in the title is a subtle nod to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey—a criminally underrated masterpiece from Mistwalker that followed his work on Final Fantasy. JRPG influences are at the very heart of this comic."
