Metro 2033's "Cursed" Mission: A Comprehensive Guide
Despite its age, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, especially since the release of the VR title, Metro Awakening. This guide focuses on a particularly challenging mission early in the game: "Cursed," set in the Turgenevskaya station (also known as The Cursed Station). This mission often trips players up due to unclear objectives and a confusing layout.
The mission begins after a railcar ride, leaving you near defenders at a barricaded escalator.
Locating the Bomb
The defenders explain that a bomb squad attempted to collapse the tunnel to stop nosalis attacks but went missing. Your task: find and detonate the bomb. Expect constant nosalis attacks; retreat to the defenders for support if overwhelmed. The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows to prevent damage. Retrieve the bomb and either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat if necessary.
Destroying the Tunnel
To detonate the bomb, enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective). A cutscene will trigger; Artyom automatically plants and lights the fuse. Escape immediately to avoid the blast. Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb will achieve the same result. Note: nosalises can still enter through other routes.
Destroying the Airlock
The defenders also mention an airlock. To find it, ascend the stairs on the right to the torchlit area. Ignore the nosalises and interact with the support columns to place a pipe bomb. Evacuate immediately after lighting the fuse. With both tunnel entrances destroyed, proceed with Khan to the shrine room and the next mission, "Armory."
