Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for its much-anticipated crossplay update, set to roll out in late March 2025. In a recent post on X/Twitter, the studio confirmed that this update will bring multiplayer functionality across all platforms and introduce a world transfer feature for Pals. Accompanying the announcement was a promotional image showcasing a group of Palworld characters engaged in battle with a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will come with the March update, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans. This news comes as a boon to the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, which includes the crossplay feature, an "ending scenario," and a host of new content for this wildly popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld's launch on Steam at $30, and its simultaneous release on Xbox and PC via Game Pass, shattered sales and concurrent player records a year ago. The game's explosive success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio was overwhelmed by the massive profits generated. Responding swiftly, Pocketpair capitalized on this success by forging a partnership with Sony, establishing Palworld Entertainment to expand the game's intellectual property and bring it to the PlayStation 5.
However, looming over these developments is a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who have filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against infringement and damages. They claim that Palworld has violated "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to the game's mechanics, such as how players summon Pals. The studio remains steadfast, pledging to defend its position in court and continue legal proceedings against Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.
