2K Games and 31st Union unveil Project ETHOS: a free-to-play roguelike hero shooter! Currently in playtest (October 17th-21st), this innovative title blends roguelike progression with fast-paced, third-person hero shooter action.
A Unique Twist on Hero Shooters
Project ETHOS distinguishes itself through its dynamic "Evolutions" system. Randomized in-game events alter hero abilities, forcing players to adapt strategies on the fly. Turn your sniper into a close-quarters combatant, or your support character into a solo powerhouse – the possibilities are endless!
The game features two core modes:
- Trials: A signature mode where three-player teams battle human and AI opponents. Collect cores, strategically choose when to extract, and use them to unlock upgrades. Death means losing your cores, adding a high-stakes roguelike element. Join ongoing matches or wait for a new one – match durations are displayed before queuing.
- Gauntlet: A traditional competitive PvP tournament mode. Fight through brackets, upgrading your hero with each victory, until a final showdown. Elimination means waiting for the next round.
How to Participate in the Playtest
The playtest, currently limited to the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, runs from October 17th to 21st. Earn a playtest key by watching participating Twitch streams for 30 minutes. You can also register on the official website for future playtest opportunities.
