CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new regions and monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4: Exploring Uncharted Territories and Creatures
A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They confirmed the introduction of previously unseen environments and monstrous foes.
The village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a chilling ritual involving young girls takes place to appease a terrifying entity. This entity, revealed to be a monster called Bauk, draws its inspiration from Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and fearsome adversary. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a host of other new creatures to challenge them.
While eager to discuss these additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a fresh experience within the familiar world of The Continent.
In a subsequent Skill UP interview on December 15th, 2024, Kalemba and Mitręga indicated that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Stromford's location in the far north suggests Ciri's journey will take her beyond Geralt's previously explored territories.
Enhanced NPC Interactions
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted advancements in NPC design. Acknowledging criticism of reused models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba emphasized the increased diversity and depth of NPCs in The Witcher 4. Each NPC will possess a unique story and life, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. This is particularly apparent in the isolated village setting of Stromford.
CD Projekt Red is also refining NPC models, improving their appearance, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these revelations point towards enhanced player interaction and a more believable, interconnected world. For more on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
