Capcom is actively enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance and exploring options to reduce PC GPU requirements before the game's official release. This article delves into Capcom's optimization plans.
Capcom Optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for Launch
Lowering GPU Requirements for PC Players
On January 19, 2025, Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements for Monster Hunter Wilds. A video showcasing smoother gameplay during a Quematrice hunt highlighted the enhanced Prioritize Framerate mode on PS5, boosting fps at the expense of some visual detail. The announcement also confirmed similar optimizations for the PC version, with a focus on lowering the recommended GPU specifications. The tweet stated a commitment to improving performance and exploring reductions in minimum GPU requirements.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could make the game playable on lower-end hardware, broadening its accessibility. Furthermore, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and system compatibility.
Addressing Beta Test Concerns
The initial open beta test (October-November 2024) revealed performance issues, with many Steam users criticizing low-poly models and reporting fps drops. While some players achieved performance improvements, it often came at the cost of visual quality.
Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1, 2024, promising a fix for afterimage noise in the final release and highlighting significant performance improvements compared to the beta. A second open beta test, featuring Gypceros and a new monster, is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Whether these recent performance enhancements will be included in the second beta remains to be seen. For more details on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our related article.
